Gerd Hirschmann started dancing Argentine Tango in 1997 when looking for a contact partner dance to complement his studies and practices of classical ballet. His first teacher was Nora Dinzelbacher from San Francisco and he still credits her for instilling a passionate love for tango in him.

After learning the basics in NewYorkCity, he has traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina several times since, where he has studied with many of the masters. His main influences are Gustavo Naveira, Gavito, Osvaldo Zotto(y Lorena), Facundo(y Kelly), Nito(y Elba), Danel(y Maria), Pulpo(y Luiza), to name but a few.

For the last eight years, Gerd has been teaching and sharing his insights of tango regularly in Norwich, VT and has taught workshops in NYC, Boston and around New England, most recently in Burlington,VT.

He also organizes the annual ‘Moonlight inVermont’ Tango Weekend in Brandon, VT (Sept. 11th -13th, 2009 - Fifth Annual!!).

Gerd's workshops are based on sharing his love of tango music and inspiring dancers to create their own style of dancing, emphasizing creativity, improvisation and physical dialog within the couple. He begins most lessons with easy exercises, adding elements and/or variations ultimately leading to unique and challenging patterns and rhythms. Gerd's classes are fun and accessible to beginning dancers as well as challenging for those with years of experience.
